'things' is the object + its meaning/ mindset/perception
Nowadays in society, 'things' reflect our personality, it tells us who are we, High class or low class, Good or bad person, Clean/ dirty, Tidy or mess via people perception through 'things' and the way we act or react to the object.
The examples that were given in class are 'the door' by Bruno Latour and 'spaghetti'. When a person doesn't close the door, it reflects that the person doesn't know manner, so he/she is assumed to be a mean person.
Eating spaghetti and the sauce fling on the shirt, it makes the person look bad in other peoples' view. Or the way you don't twirl the spaghetti noodle, instead you just scoop them.
